Squad Structure, Objectives and Selection Criteria
DOLPHINS SQUAD
Goal
To further improve the technique on the four competitive strokes.
Coaching Objectives
- Further enhance water skills in a wide range of aquatic activities,
- Develop the starting and turning skills,
- Continue to improve correct technique on each stroke with emphasis on streamlining, breath control and strong efficient kicking action,
- Develop the concepts of flexibility and stretching,
- Develop personal water safety,
- Have fun!
Training sessions available: 2 Age Group: 7yrs to 9yrs [+/- 1 year]

Squad Selection Criteria
- From a push off, demonstrate holding a correct streamlined position on front and back for a minimum distance of 5m.
- Demonstrate a front crawl start, including the transition into the stroke,
- Demonstrate a backstroke start, including the transition into the stroke,
- Tread water for 1 minute with one arm out of the water for 30 secs,
- Swim underwater for a minimum distance of 10m using two different styles,
- On the back, scull headfirst for 10m, back somersault and scull feet first for 10m,
- Swim continuously for 10 minutes using two different strokes and changing every length – all with good technique,
- Swim 4 x 50m freestyle with 10 secs rest between each 50m with good technique and control throughout,
- Demonstrate a front crawl and a backstroke tumble turn covering a minimum distance of 5m before and after the turn, From a dive demonstrate an IM covering one length on each stroke.
