Squad Structure, Objectives and Selection Criteria
SWORDFISH SQUAD
Goal
Develop technique on all four strokes to an efficient level that can be used confidently in competition.
Objectives
- Continue the development of water skills in a wide range of aquatic activities,
- Improve the starting and turning skills,
- Further develop technique on each stroke to an efficient level that swimmers can use confidently in competition,
- Ensure swimmers understand the importance of streamlining, breath control and strong kicking action,
- Improve the knowledge and ability of flexibility and stretching,
- Introduce concepts of endurance development [aerobic capacity],
- Introduce short rest interval training as a method of improving aerobic capacity,
- Enhance personal water safety,
- Have fun!
Training sessions available: 3 Age Group : 8yrs to 10yrs [+/- 1 year]

Squad Selection Criteria
- Attend at least 2 of the 3 sessions available per week,
- Swim 50m freestyle in less that 55secs,
- From a dive swim 100m IM continuously with good technique and turns,
- Swim 10 x 50m freestyle with 10 secs rest between each 50m with good technique,
- Demonstrate correct turns on all four strokes covering 5m before and after turn
- Scull 25m on back – feet first; on back - head first; and on front – head first.
