The Scotia Masters team travelled to Carlisle at the weekend to compete in the first event of the Year. Coach Craig Drummond has had the squad in the water over the holiday period for some extra curricular training to keep up fitness, so hopes were high for a good performance. And the Team didn’t disappoint their Coach. With a medal haul of 39 and then winning the Team event, Scotia Masters proved their worth.
Laura Shields lead the medal table with 10 from 10 events. Gold 7. Silver 3. Kristin Geppert with 9 Golds and Keith Watchorn with 2 Gold and 7 Silver were next. Lynn Campbell won 7 medals, comprising 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze. Newcomer Marc Mills who after a Rugby career that involved injuries including a broken neck and pending hip replacement, had gotten back into training 2 days after Christmas. Helping with managing the team on the poolside, Marc also won 1 Silver and 3 Bronze.
Kristin Geppert had the best improved performance with a total of 4 personal Best times. The biggest being 3.7s off her 100m Breaststroke. Lynn Campbell brought home the most improved time by knocking 12 seconds off her 400m Individual Medley time. Keith Watchorn competed in his first 400m Individual Medley which was a great achievement and has now set a new Personal Best.
So with such a great Team Performance, the amount of points awarded to the Scotia team saw them winning the event by 1 point.
The results are a good reflection of the teams commitment to training but mostly to Coach Craig Drummonds excellent coaching skills.
The team next compete on 27th January in Aberdeen.Link to this event
